Visual Resources
We see things.
LSD’s visual resources specialists have a reputation for seeing things—specifically, how a project may impact the visual quality and character of the scenic landscape. Our visual resources team has experience using the Forest Service’s Scenery Management System (SMS) and the BLM’s Visual Resource Management (VRM) System for analyzing potential effects to the scenic landscape. We prepare separate scenic resource impact reports, as well as visual resource sections of environmental impact statements (EISs) and environmental assessment (EAs). LSD is recognized by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA); USDA Forest Service; and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as an expert in the field of visual resource analysis and we have made presentations on the subject at the BLM’s National Training Center in Phoenix.
Services include:
- Visual resource inventory and impact analysis
- Photo-realistic simulations
- Visual prioritization process
- BLM VRM System contrast rating and compliance evaluations
- Forest Service SMS compliance evaluations
- Graphics and GIS mapping for visual resource analysis
